Workplace Health Support Officer Sunderland

Location: Sunderland
Band/Salary: Band 3, Point 5, £17,485 per annum, pro rata
Hours: 18½ hours per week (Given the nature of the role it is expected that the post-holder will work flexibly. This may include working extended hours, evenings and weekends to ensure PCP remains responsive and agile.)

Job Purpose:

  • To ensure that employers are offered support to successfully achieve the North East Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA) at all levels.
    To assist with ensuring small, medium and large employers are supported to improve health in the workplace through health needs assessment, identification of health improvement priorities and development of health improvement plans and activities including training.
    To be a Health Advocate and Registered Sunderland Health Champion, promoting all aspects of health improvement in Sunderland.


Key tasks:

  • To support the delivery of the regional Better Health at Work Award (BHAWA) in Sunderland.
    To assist with progressing existing workplaces registered on the award. Including, but not limited to providing guidance around policy and procedure development, recommending best practice, undertaking support visits, reviewing Health Needs Assessment reports and completing assessments.
    Maintain and administer systems and processes, including those relating to Healthy Workplace Service in Sunderland and the Sunderland Workplace Alliance as required.
    Support the collection of quantitative and qualitative data sets from a wide variety of sources and provide a timely summary and analysis function to inform developments and employers.
    To assist to identify and engage new businesses in workplace health programmes and the BHAWA.


Key skills required:

  • NVQ Level 3 or equivalent qualification in Administration or Business.
    Excellent IT Skills, proficient in Word, Excel, Publisher, Access and PowerPoint.
  • Strong verbal and written communication/interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate in a
    professional manner at all times.
    At least 2 years’ experience of working in a fast paced environment providing efficient and
    effective administrative support.
    Ability to manage own workload and work autonomously with minimal supervision.
